A FANTASTIC EVENING OF DANCE
The St John Fisher School Sport Partnership (www.sspstjohnfisher.co.uk) organised a multi-cultural celebration at Dewsbury Town Hall on Saturday 21st November 2009 called ‘Lets Dance’. The Partnership’s three Dance Coaches Joanne Weathers, Lucinda Raine and Rachel Bowers put the programme together, with 8 local schools, 4 local dance schools and ‘Manasamitra’ a professional Indian Dance company (a Yorkshire based arts organisation using traditional Indian music, dance, story telling to inspire and challenge communities – manasamitra.com). Local schools performed their dances that were a product of half a terms work both in curriculum and out of school learning clubs. Dances ranged from street, themed WWII, Thriller, cheerleading and rock and roll. 4 girls from St John Fisher also performed set pieces in a variety of styles. Local dance groups included the Ukrainian Youth Krylati dancers, Katie Philpot, Dewsbury Dance Centre and the Sarah Taylor schools of Dance. “Lets Dance” brought together a wonderful mix of styles, cultures, ages and communities. The Partnership is about creating opportunities to enable young people to learn, train and perform in venues where they may never have the chance to otherwise. Raising aspirations and enjoying the thrill of performing” – Julie Noble – ‘Partnership Development Manager’.
