Scissett Middle Victorious
On Thursday 22nd April, 12 junior and middle schools from across all 4 Kirklees School Sport Partnerships were represented at the Kirklees High Five Netball Final at Newsome High School and Sports College. 3 teams from each SSP had all come through their partnership qualifying rounds and were competing to be crowned the Kirklees High Five Netball Champions, and the chance represent Kirklees at the West Yorkshire Youth Games in June.
The teams were split into 2 pools playing each other once with the teams finishing first and second qualifying for the knockout stages.
Pool A saw a very dominant team from St Patrick’s finishing top of the pile undefeated, and scoring an amazing 27 goals in the process! They were closely followed into the semi finals by Scissett Middle who amassed 20 points from 4 wins losing only to St Patrick’s by 4 goals to 1 on their route to the semis.

Pool B was more closely contested with a 3 way tie for just 2 semi final places! With Meltham Moor, Hopton and Moldgreen all tied on 19 points from 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat, it was down to goal difference. With a difference of +9, Meltham Moor progressed as group winners, with Hopton in second place on +8 joining them in the semi finals, and Moldgreen just missing out with a goal difference of +3.
The semi final stage saw St Patricks overcome Hopton and Scissett Middle defeat Meltham Moor to set up a Final between Scissett and St Patricks.

The Final was a tense affair and after St Patrick’s had claimed an early lead neither team could get a shot on goal for conceding a number of penalties for ‘footwork’. However, in looking to make up for their loss in the group stages Scissett managed to draw level and went on to register 2 further goals to see them victorious as 3-1 winners.
A special mention must go to the young leaders from Shelley School who did a great job umpiring the matches. Well done to all the young people taking part and we wish Scissett Middle all the best in representing Kirklees at the West Yorkshire Youth Games in June.
